Established in 1837, university of durham is a coeducational, public research university in Durham, England. The University's academic departments and its 17 colleges carry out the majority of its duties as a collegiate institution. In general, colleges are in charge of students' living conditions and welfare whereas departments are in charge of research and teaching.

The University, which is currently rated 92nd in the QS World Rankings 2023, is one of the top 100 institutions in the world and a member of the elite Russell Group of British research universities. The Teaching Excellence Framework has also given Durham Gold Status in recognition of its excellence in providing students with consistently outstanding teaching, learning, and outcomes.

There are 25 academic departments in Durham, 19 of which are among the top 100. More than 200 undergraduate programs and 190 graduate programs are available at the university, which is divided into four faculties: business, social sciences, engineering & science, and arts & humanities. According to the Financial Times Ranking, the MBA program at the business school is ranked second in the world for Value for Money. Popular courses at Durham University include geography, economics, law, and psychology.

The University's Castle and Cathedral have been named UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and Durham is a city with a World Heritage designation.

At the start of each term, the University provides a complimentary coach transport service from Newcastle Airport, with a welcome crew on hand to assist travellers. In the REF 2021, almost 99% of Durham's research received ratings of "international quality," with 90% receiving ratings of "world-leading" or "international exceptional." Six Durham academic disciplines, including Geography (first), Archaeology (second), Education (second), Classics and Ancient History (fourth), Theology and Religion (eighth), and Sport and Exercise Sciences, were among the top ten in the UK for the overall quality of their research (10th).

Location

North-east England's Durham is one of the country's most picturesque cities. The 11th-century cathedral and castle, a World Heritage Site, dominate the skyline. There are many different stores and eateries in Durham, and there are twice weekly enormous outdoor markets in addition to the daily indoor market. At Stockton, the Queen's Campus is situated 20 miles from Durham. Every day, a free bus service connects the two campuses.
